Sausage Cheese Rolls

In the season of Malaysian Materchef , my kids are inspired to try their hand at making bread..
I was actually trying out MamaFami's recipe which I saw on the FB..hehehe...

Suddenly all of my kids invaded the kitchen and try out making the rolls. The kitchen is really not a place for so many to b in and big ones like my kids..the kitchen suddenly feels too small..

This is the final result of the sausage cheese rolls hehehe for first timers is quite alright :)
Anyway, I enclosed the said recipe from MamaF's blog for anyone who is interested to give it a try. I will definitely give it another try soon..
Thanks again MamaF..I have just cut and paste the recipe from your blog.

Source : Pook
Ingredients :
300 g bread flour
5g instant dried yeast
10g sugar
6g salt
30g unsalted butter (soft)
220-230g one egg plus whole milk
12 pieces sausage
6 slices processed cheese slices individually wrapped in plastic (cut into half)

One egg plus 2 tsp of water for glazing

Bread machine method :

1. Into the bread maker pan, pour the milk and egg. Add sugar and salt.

2. Top it with flour and drizzle the dry yeast. Select the dough setting and press start.

3. When the ingredients is just combined, add in the unsalted butter and leave the bread maker to finish the cycle.

4. Take the dough out of the bowl, deflate by touching it lightly. Cut the dough into 12 pieces, roll into a ball and let them rest for 10 minutes.

5. Using a rolling pin to roll the dough into an oval shape, place the sausage in the middle, cut both side of the dough into strips, and place half of the cheese slice over the sausage. Fold the strips alternating the left and right over the sausage.

6. Place the dough on the oven sheet, lined with non stick baking paper (the cheese will melt while baking and some will leak). Preheat the oven to 200°C. Let the dough rise until almost double in size, brush with egg wash. Bake for 8 minutes then reduce the temperature to 180°C and bake for 5 minutes more or until the rolls are golden brown.

Pizza Malas

Kuih Kapiit Penang

It has been awhile since I last went to Penang...especially to stay at The Gurney..used to have lovely holidays with the kids, the rooms were perfect and I can just leave the kids at the pool whilst enjoying a quite nap in the room..uhmmm those were the days..anyway, I revisited it recently, it was still as it was many years ago..only the outlets outside have changed and this time we , my hubby and me, did not stay but had coffee at the Coffee Bean on the patio overlooking the sea as well eating our grub we bought along Batu Ferringhi....watching the cars passing by whilst enjoying the breeze ..what a lovely afternoon it was.

This is the Kuih Kapit, I really do not know what the Penangites called them but I called them that for that simple reason they are kapit or sandwich together..I have tasted them before ages ago when my late mum made them..but this was later introduced by a classmate of mine, Paridah Moksin..OMG it was so good then, that when we made this journey to Penang, I told my hubby we have to make time to go to Batu Feringghi and find this awesome kuih.

Let me give you a roundup of how u can actually make them at home...I am going to try make them as soon as i know where to get the kuih bakul which is actually only available during Chinese New Year..haha..
If u can see the outer layers is a slice of orange tapioca and a slice of yam. Cut about 3.5 inches each and the kuih bakul is heart of it. After which u dip the whole sandwich in a batter for frying goreng pisang (the crispy one) and fry it. U have to eat it 5 minutes after u take it out of the oil because the kuih bakul will be soften and really hot n it might burn your tongue..Happy trying..

BUTTT if u feel like u really do not want to mess about in the kitchen, take a trip to Penang, go along Batu Feringghi and u check it out yourself..I think u have to go somewhere near the Maybank along Batu Feringghi. He sells his kuihs out of a white purpose built van.

Healthy Bites

Have u seen these served at one of the Nonya styled outlets..I had lunch at this outlet and I saw this lady eating away without much guilt..gnawing into the salad roll. As I was about to pay at the counter, I asked the cashier quickly showing her to the table..owwhh she said..something which I cannot comprehend. Anyway, I really do not know what is the actual content of the fillings but I guess it must along this :

Ingredients:

2 bulb of garlic
1 turnip (sengkuang) - skin the turnip and grated
1 - 2 carrots, grated
a head of lettuce
25 gm dried prawns
2 tablespoon of cooking oil
salt, black pepper

1. Crush the garlic;
2. Heat up the pan, pour the cooking oil and put the crushed garlic till it is golden;
3. Put in the dried prawn, grated turnips and grated carrot;
4. Stir fry till the mix is cooked, add some salt and black pepper to taste;
5. Cool it slightly;
6. Clean the head of lettuce and dry the lettuce;

To assemble:

Shred the lettuce like little plates and spoon the vegetable mix on the lettuce n roll it.. EAT n ENJOY...yummms
